For the second straight game, McKeesport will face off against Montour. The Tigers will welcome the Spartans at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. McKeesport is looking for their season's first victory.
McKeesport fell victim to Montour and their airtight pitching crew on Tuesday. They lost 16-0 to the Spartans.
For Montour's part, Olliver Wovchko looked comfortable as he struck out seven batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and not a single walk). Wovchko also tossed no walks, which is notable because the Spartans are 4-2 when he allows at most one walk, but 2-4 otherwise.
On the hitting side, Montour let Andrew Porto and Zachary Black run wild. Porto went 2-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base, while Black went a perfect 2-for-2 with three RBI, two runs, and one double. Those two runs gave Black a new career-high. Nino DiMichele was another key player, going 2-for-3 with one triple, two RBI, and one run.
Montour always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .667. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as McKeesport only posted an OBP of .143.
Montour pushed their record up to 6-6 with the win, which was their fourth straight at home. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.5 runs on average over those games. As for McKeesport, their loss dropped their record down to 0-13.
McKeesport's speedy runners might be the difference in Wednesday's matchup. The Tigers have been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.2 stolen bases per game. It's a different story for Montour, though, as they've been averaging only 1.1 stolen bases. Will they be able to secure the bases, or will McKeesport continue to outrun the ball?
