TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - After taking the lead in the fourth quarter,
North Florida Christian (Tallahassee, Fla.) held on for a 27-14 victory over
University Christian (Jacksonville, Fla.) on Saturday. The difference for the Eagles was that
Joey Giaritelli threw a touchdown to
Christian Philpott.
The Eagles led 13-7 at halftime, but the Christians recaptured the lead on a Giaritelli touchdown pass to Philpott with less than a minute remaining in the fourth.
By the end of the third, North Florida Christian found itself trailing by one point as University Christian captured the lead thanks to one score in the quarter. UC scored on a
Hussein Howe touchdown run in the quarter.
The loss snapped University Christian's six-game winning streak.
NFC came in allowing an average of 20.3 points per game this season. A defensively strong the Tallahassee school kept the Jacksonville school well below the 38.1 points it had been averaging per game.
The Eagles got revenge for last year's 44-31 loss to the Christians with the victory.
The defeat comes as a step back for University Christian, which notched a 34-12 victory over Florida A&M in its previous outing. The win brought North Florida Christian's winning streak to three games.
