Baseball Recap: Douglass Beats Wise for Their Fifth Straight Win

Douglass had already won four in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 17.3 runs) and they went ahead and made it five on Monday. Everything went their way against the Wise Pumas as they made off with a 20-2 win. This was payback for the Eagles, who suffered a 13-4 loss the last time these two teams met.

Kayden Wilkins and Eric Guzman were major factors no matter where they played. Throwing, Wilkins struck out eight batters over three innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off two hits (and not a single walk). Meanwhile, Guzman pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Those eight strikeouts gave Wilkins a new career-high. At the plate, Wilkins got on base in three of his five plate appearances with three stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI, while Guzman went 1-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. Guzman is on a roll when it comes to RBI, as he's now brought in three or more in each of the last three games he's played.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Arrington Price, III, who went 1-for-3 with three stolen bases, three runs, and two RBI. He has been hot, having posted two or more stolen bases the last six times he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Kingston Jones, who earned four runs and two stolen bases.

Douglass always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .595. That was just more of the same: they've now posted an OBP of .571 or higher in three consecutive contests.

Douglass pushed their record up to 14-3 with the victory, which was their third straight on the road. Those road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.0 runs on average over those games. As for Wise, they are on a nine-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-16.

As of now, neither Douglass nor the Pumas have any future games scheduled.
