Citrus saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Weston Brannen, who went 1-for-2 with two stolen bases. Brannen has become a key player for the Hurricanes: the team is 2-1 when he posts at least two stolen bases, but 7-12 otherwise.
Meanwhile, Weeki Wachee waltzed into their contest on Friday with two straight wins... but they left with three. Everything went their way against the Pirates as they made off with an 11-1 win.
Jack Strong made a big impact no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out nine batters over six innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, scoring two runs while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances. That's the most runs he has posted since back in March.
In other batting news, Jacob Barnum was a standout: he scored a run while going 2-for-3. Another player making a difference was Jayden Allen, who scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-3.
Weeki Wachee always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .514. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their OBP total in three consecutive games.
Citrus' loss dropped their record down to 9-13. As for Weeki Wachee, their record now sits at 13-9.
Citrus' speedy runners might be the difference in Tuesday's matchup. The Hurricanes have been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 4.1 stolen bases per game. It's a different story for Weeki Wachee, though, as they've been averaging only 0.7 stolen bases. Will they be able to secure the bases, or will Citrus continue to outrun the ball?
Citrus couldn't quite finish off Weeki Wachee when the teams last played back in March and fell 5-3. Can the Hurricanes avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
