The Arapahoe Warriors are taking a road trip to challenge the Ralston Valley Mustangs at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. Arapahoe is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.8 runs per game this season.
Arapahoe came out on top against Mullen on Tuesday thanks in part to the team's impressive five-run second inning. The Warriors skirted past the Mustangs 5-4. The game was the first time the Warriors have beaten the Mustangs on their field since April 23, 2019.
Cain Gostenik spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered four earned runs on seven hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances.
Meanwhile, Ralston Valley never let their opponents score on Thursday. They walked away with a 4-0 win over Lakewood. The Mustangs haven't had any issues with the Tigers recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive victory against them.
The result came thanks to Winston Patterson's shutout, as he gave up just a hit and racked up 11 Ks. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Ralston Valley is undefeated when he allows at most one earned run, but 4-6 otherwise.
On the hitting side, Brayden Gillest was incredible, going 2-for-3 with one home run, two RBI, and one double. Those two RBI gave him a new career-high. Mason Gilbreath also deserves some recognition as he launched his first home run of the season.
They weren't the only ones working in the home run department: Ralston Valley lost a few balls and finished the game with two home runs. That's the most home runs they've managed all season.
Arapahoe has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 10-4 record this season. They've had to fight for that success though, as they only beat their opponents by an average of 2.67 runs across that stretch. As for Ralston Valley, they now have a winning record of 7-6.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Friday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Arapahoe has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 6.6 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Ralston Valley struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 8.4 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Arapahoe came up short against Ralston Valley when the teams last played back in April of 2024, falling 7-4. Can the Warriors avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
