Even though the Belmont Bison have not done well against the Thurgood Marshall Cougars recently (they were 0-7 in their previous seven matchups), they didn't let the past get in their way on Friday. Belmont sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 66-64 win over Thurgood Marshall. Having run the score up that high, both teams might be doing some extra defensive drills very soon.
Leading Belmont to victory were Damarion Calahan and Judah Baldwin. Calahan scored 23 points, while Baldwin scored 20 points along with 8 rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Denzell Ogle, who scored 11 points along with 6 rebounds.
Belmont's victory bumped their record up to 1-2. As for Thurgood Marshall, their loss dropped their record down to 2-2.
Belmont will head out on the road to face off against Linden-McKinley at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday. As for Thurgood Marshall, they will be playing at home against Ponitz Career Tech at 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Ponitz Career Tech will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Ohio Rankings (they are ranked 454th, while Thurgood Marshall is ranked 207th).
