This season hasn't been kind to the Athens Christian Eagles, who are still winless after their ninth match. They had to suffer through a rough 42-0 loss at the hands of Elbert County. While losing is never fun, Athens Christian can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Georgia football rankings (they are ranked 459th, while Elbert County is ranked 154th).
Layden Bryson threw for 118 yards while completing 83.3% of his passes. Bryson Campbell was his top target, picking up 102 receiving yards.
The critical scores for Elbert County came from Sean Fruster, Ty'Rikis Jones, and Eli Harris.
Athens Christian bumped their record down to 0-10 with that defeat, which was their fifth straight on the road dating back to last season. Admittedly, the team was facing some tough opposition over that stretch, including 10-1 Darlington and 9-1 Commerce (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 70.2% over those games). As for Elbert County, their win bumped their record up to 8-2.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Athens Christian will take on Mount de Sales Academy at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Mount de Sales Academy is still on the hunt for that elusive first 'W'. Elbert County will have some time to savor their win since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Oglethorpe County at 7:30 p.m. on November 10th.
