Marlboro Central has enjoyed the comforts of home their last three games, but now they'll head out on the road. They will take on the Port Jervis Raiders at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Last Friday, while Marlboro Central put up some points, the same can't be said for Saugerties. Marlboro Central was the clear victor by a 20-0 margin over Saugerties.
Marlboro Central can attribute much of their success to Ryan Durling, who rushed for 181 yards and two touchdowns.
Meanwhile, Port Jervis waltzed into Friday's contest with four straight wins but they left with five. They blew past Highland 72-3 at home. Given Port Jervis' advantage in MaxPreps' New York football rankings (they are ranked 171st, while Highland is ranked 391st), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Port Jervis' success was spearheaded by the efforts of Dylan Fox, who threw for 214 yards and four touchdowns while completing 72.7% of his passes, and Anthony Theodore, who gained 262 total yards and four touchdowns. Carroll Dolshun was in the mix too, providing Port Jervis with three touchdowns.
Another reason for the win was Port Jervis' imposing defense, which managed to get into the backfield for five sacks. The heavy lifting was done by Dolshun and Ivan Figueroa who racked up four sacks between them.
Their wins lifted both teams to an identical 7-2.
Here's a few offensive stats to keep an eye on ahead of Saturday's contest: Marlboro Central has been excellent on the ground this season, having averaged 166.6 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Port Jervis struggles in that department as they've been even better at 244.4 per game. It's looking like Saturday's game might have some serious battles in the trenches. Marlboro Central was taken down by Port Jervis 27-0 when the teams last played back in November of 2022. Can Marlboro Central avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
