The Taos Tigers and the Aztec Tigers squared off in some playoff action on Saturday, but sadly the Taos Tigers had to settle for second. Taos took a 21-14 hit to the loss column at the hands of Aztec. Taos lost against Aztec in their previous head to head back in September, too, but the margin this time around was much closer than the 36-7 score last time.
Several Tigers players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Lionel Salazar, who picked up 147 receiving yards and two touchdowns. Another player making a difference was Evan Salazar, who threw for 239 yards and a touchdown on only 19 passes.
Baylor Seabolt was his usual excellent self, rushing for 205 yards and two touchdowns while picking up 12.1 yards per carry. Seabolt was no stranger to the big play, taking off on a dash that went for 65 yards.
On the other side of the ball, a lot of the credit has to go to Aztec's defense and their seven sacks. The heavy lifting was done by Kris Cook and Kale Watson who racked up five sacks between them.
Taos' defeat dropped their record down to 4-7. As for Aztec, they have been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five matches, which provided a nice bump to their 7-4 record this season.
Taos does not have any more games scheduled as of now. Aztec will head out on the road to face off against Silver at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. Silver has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 136 points over their last three games.
