The Jones Trojans's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their third straight loss. They had to suffer through a rough 51-24 loss at the hands of Union. While losing is never fun, Jones can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 376th, while Union is ranked 96th).
Despite the defeat, Jones saw an underclassman step up: Aariel Jemison scored 11 points along with 6 rebounds. Jemison scored a full 45.8% of Jones' points, the second time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. Cassidy Rouse was another key contributor, scoring 3 points along with 10 rebounds.
Ariyona Spearman was her usual excellent self, dropping a double-double on 21 points and 15 rebounds for Union. The match was Spearman's fourth in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Zadariyah Faison, who scored 19 points.
Jones' loss dropped their record down to 1-4. As for Union, the win makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 3-1.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Jones will square off against North Duplin at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Union, they will head out on the road to face off against Midway at 6:00 p.m. on Monday.
