After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Germantown, Pearl was happy to have turned things around on Friday. They put the hurt on the Meridian Wildcats with a sharp 38-17 win. The high-scoring effort was just what the Pirates needed considering they were shut out in their previous contest.

One reason for the win was Pearl's imposing defense, which managed to get into the backfield for three sacks. The team can thank three different players for their defensive prowess: Kyler Vanderford, Marcus Dear, and Malik McKee, who each picked up one sack apiece. Another thorn in Meridian's side was Triston Tillmon, who made 16 total tackles (2.0 for loss).

Pearl's victory bumped their record up to 2-4. As for Meridian, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost three of their last four games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 2-4 record this season.

We've got plenty of inter-district action coming up soon. Pearl is set to take on their familiar foe Northwest Rankin at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Meanwhile, Meridian will square off against rival Oak Grove at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
