Baseball Recap: Pascack Hills Has No Trouble Against St. Mary

After losing to St. Mary the last time they met, Pascack Hills decided to demonstrate that turnabout is fair play. The Broncos put the hurt on the Gaels with a sharp 13-3 victory on Tuesday. The result was nothing new for the Broncos, who have now won six matchups by six runs or more so far this season.

Anthony Blackford made a splash while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out seven batters over 5.2 innings while giving up three earned runs off four hits (and only one walk). He also tossed a walk, which is notable because Pascack Hills is 2-1 when he allows at most two walks, but 7-8 otherwise. Blackford was also big at the plate, getting on base in all five of his plate appearances with two RBI.

In other batting news, Corey Ginsberg was a standout: he got on base in three of his five plate appearances with one home run and four RBI. Pascack Hills is 2-1 when Ginsberg posts one or more home runs, but 7-8 otherwise. Another player making a difference was John Giannantonio, who went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, three runs, and one double.

Pascack Hills always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .605. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Pascack Hills' win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 9-9. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.7 runs on average over those games. As for St. Mary, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 12-7.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Pascack Hills will venture away from home to square off against Indian Hills at 4:15 p.m. on Wednesday. As for St. Mary, they will challenge Leonia at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Gaels are facing the Lions at the right time seeing as the Lions are stuck on a four-game losing streak.
