The Laurens Raiders's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Thursday after their sixth straight loss. They took a 54-35 bruising from Greer. The loss unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Laurens in their matchups with Greer: they've now lost seven in a row.
Despite the loss, Laurens saw an underclassman step up: Nyri Allen scored 18 points along with seven rebounds. Allen continues to roll, besting her previous point total in each of the last three games she's played. Another player making a difference was Destiny Anderson, who scored five points along with seven rebounds.
Greer got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Jalasia Lewis out in front who dropped a double-double on 19 points and 14 rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Lewis has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Amiyah Clark-lamelle, who scored 18 points along with five assists and two steals.
Laurens' defeat was their third straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 7-11. As for Greer, the victory makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 7-8.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Laurens won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against Eastside at 6:00 p.m. on January 19th. Hopefully Eastside focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 21 last Tuesday. As for Greer, they will head out on the road to take on Riverside at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Hopefully Riverside focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 18 on Friday.
