The Sayre Eagles couldn't capitalize on their home-court advantage in their season opener. They fell 56-44 to Wheeler on Tuesday. Sayre lost against Wheeler in their previous head to head back in December of 2018, too, but the margin this time around was much wider than the 66-53 score last time.
Wheeler can attribute much of their success to Levi Ashurst, who dropped a double-double on 20 points and 11 rebounds. That makes it two consecutive games in which Ashurst has scored at least 25% of Wheeler's points. Marshall Mcneil was another key contributor, scoring 9 points along with 6 rebounds.
Sayre's defeat dropped their record down to 0-1. As for Wheeler, the victory makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 2-0.
Sayre will head out on the road to face off against Canute at 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Wheeler, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Fort Elliott at 5:45 p.m. on Thursday.
