The O'Connor Panthers will head out to square off against the Alamo Heights Mules at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. O'Connor is coming into the game hot, having won their last 11 games.
O'Connor came out on top against Brennan on Tuesday thanks in part to the team's impressive six-run fourth inning. The Panthers were the clear victors by a 7-1 margin over the Bears. The result was nothing new for the Panthers, who have now won 13 contests by six runs or more so far this season.
Faith Mayfield made a splash while hitting and pitching. She didn't allow a single earned run while striking out eight over seven innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in eight consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with one double and one RBI.
In other batting news, Araceli Alonzo was excellent, going 3-for-4 with two RBI, one run, and one double. Another player making a difference was Ella De Luna, who went 4-for-5 with one run and one RBI.
O'Connor hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team has now struck out at least five batters in 32 consecutive matchups dating back to last season.
Alamo Heights never got on the board in their matchup on Friday, but that sure wasn't the case in their game against Boerne-Champion on Tuesday. They walked away with a 10-6 win over the Chargers. Considering the Mules' hitters had been struggling lately, the high-scoring outing was a much-needed turnaround.
Like O'Connor, Alamo Heights also got a great game from a two-way player: Olivia Malitz. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run over seven innings pitched. Malitz was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with two runs and one RBI.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Elle Leavitt, who went 2-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and one stolen base. That stolen base was her first of the season. Katie Boyd was another key player, going 3-for-4 with three runs.
O'Connor's record is now 19-4. As for Alamo Heights, their record now sits at 10-17.
