Winter Springs is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Tuesday. They put the hurt on Edgewater with a sharp 16-0 victory. The win continues a trend for the Bears in their matchups with the Eagles: they've now won six in a row.
Madison Barahona looked comfortable as she pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than one walk in three consecutive appearances.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Tiffany Seemann, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in March. The team also got some help courtesy of Alondra Maldonado, who went 1-for-2 with one home run and two RBI.
Winter Springs always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .955. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Meanwhile, East River had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 7 runs) and they went ahead and made it three on Tuesday. They walked away with a 4-1 victory over the Greyhounds.
Katherine Sanchez made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out 13 batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits (and not a single walk). Sanchez was also stellar in the batter's box, going a perfect 4-for-4 with two doubles and two RBI.
In other batting news, Mady Alvarado was excellent, going 3-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI. Michelle Alvarado was another key player, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one run.
East River pushed their record up to 18-6 with the win, which was their fifth straight at home. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.2 runs on average over those games. As for Winter Springs, their record now sits at 18-8.
Thursday's matchup will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Winter Springs hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .342. However, it's not like East River struggles in that department as they've averaged .353. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
