Even though the Griffith Panthers have not done well against the Illiana Christian Vikings recently (they were 0-3 in their previous three matchups), they didn't let the past get in their way on Friday. Griffith came out on top against Illiana Christian by a score of 67-54. Given Griffith's advantage in MaxPreps' Indiana basketball rankings (they are ranked 145th, while Illiana Christian is ranked 314th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Savon Miles was his usual excellent self, scoring 21 points along with 6 rebounds. Cameron Chandler was another key contributor, scoring 10 points along with 5 rebounds.
Despite the loss, Illiana Christian still got an impressive performance from Andy Spoelman, who scored 15 points along with 6 rebounds and 4 blocks. Spoelman scored a full 27.8% of Illiana Christian's points, the fourth time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Dylan Polak, who scored 10 points.
Griffith's win bumped their record up to 3-1. As for Illiana Christian, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-3.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Griffith will take on Merrillville at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Illiana Christian, they will look to defend their home court on Monday against Highland at 7:00 p.m.
