Cheyanne Chaffin made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out nine batters over four innings while giving up just one earned run off one hit. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts any time she's pitched this season. She was also solid in the batter's box, going a perfect 2-for-2 with two RBI and one double.
In other batting news, West Broward got a massive performance out of Ava Difato, who went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, three RBI, and two runs. That's the most stolen bases Difato has posted since back in April of 2024. Another player making a difference was Cyara Geronimo, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with three RBI, two runs, and one triple.
Meanwhile, Cardinal Gibbons put another one in the bag on Friday to keep their perfect season alive. They came out on top against South Plantation by a score of 9-5. With that victory, the Chiefs brought their scoring average up to 6.8 runs per game.
Like West Broward, Cardinal Gibbons also got a great game from a two-way player: Lydia Berent. On the mound, she struck out eight batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits (and not a single walk). Berent was also big at the plate, scoring a run and stealing a base while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances.
In other batting news, Morgan Beavers was a standout: she scored two runs and stole a base while getting on base in three of her five plate appearances. She also put up a home run, which was her first of the season. Elena Elash was another key player, scoring a run while going 4-for-4.
Cardinal Gibbons always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .579. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their OBP total in three consecutive matchups.
Cardinal Gibbons' win was their fourth straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 4-0. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.0 runs on average over those games. As for West Broward, their victory ended a four-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 3-1.
