Softball Recap: Northwestern Has No Trouble Against South Pointe

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Catawba Ridge, Northwestern was happy to have turned things around on Monday. They blew past the South Pointe Stallions 15-0. That looming 15-0 mark stands out as the most commanding margin for the Trojans yet this season.

Abby Williams made a splash while hitting and pitching. She struck out seven batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off three hits (and not a single walk). She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in seven consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, firing off two home runs, three runs, and four RBI while going 3-for-3. That's the most hits she has posted since back in April of 2024.

In other batting news, Lyla Seibert and Aubrey Sarna did most of the damage at the plate: Seibert scored two runs and stole two bases while going 1-for-1, while Sarna scored three runs and stole a base while going 2-for-3. Those two stolen bases gave Seibert a new career-high. Macy Monczynski also deserves some recognition as she scored her first run of the season.

Northwestern always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .667. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Northwestern moved to 4-10 with that victory, which also ended their four-game losing streak. As for South Pointe, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-14.

Looking ahead, Northwestern will be playing at home against Fort Mill at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Trojans are facing the Yellow Jackets at the right time seeing as the Yellow Jackets are stuck on an eight-game losing streak. As for South Pointe, they will look to defend their home field on Tuesday against Lancaster at 6:00 p.m. The Stallions' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Bruins have averaged an impressive 6.7 runs per game this season.
