Plainfield North and Oswego are an even 5-5 against one another since April of 2021, but likely not for long. The Tigers will be playing in front of their home fans against the Panthers at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Both come into the matchup bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Plainfield North will bounce into Wednesday's contest after beating Yorkville, who they had gone 0-9 against in their nine prior meetings. The Tigers came out on top against the Foxes by a score of 6-2 on Monday. While the Tigers didn't have the best season last year (they finished 12-17), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past.
Meanwhile, Oswego never let their opponents score on Monday. Everything went their way against Oswego East as they made off with a 10-0 victory. The Panthers might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won five games by six runs or more this season.
Adalynn Fugitt made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out six over five innings pitched. She has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than two walks in seven consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with three runs, two doubles, and two RBI. That's the most runs she has posted since back in March.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Sophie Morland, who went 3-for-4 with three RBI and one run. Those three RBI gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Betsy Jack, who went 2-for-3 with four RBI.
Oswego was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .481. They are a perfect 4-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.
Oswego has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven matchups. That's provided a massive bump to their 9-7 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.6 runs over those games. As for Plainfield North, their victory bumped their record up to 7-5.
Plainfield North might still be hurting after the 10-0 loss they got from Oswego when the teams last played back in May of 2025. Can the Tigers avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
