The Chiefland Indians will head out on the road to face off against the Riverside Christian Wranglers at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Chiefland is hoping to put an end to a five-game streak of away losses.
Last Tuesday, things could have been worse for Chiefland, but they could have been a whole lot better as they took a 40-21 loss to Trenton. While losing is never fun, Chiefland can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 324th, while Trenton is ranked 108th).
The loss doesn't tell the whole story though, as several players had good games. One of the most active was Nyasia Bivins, who scored eight points along with 13 rebounds and four blocks. Laila Ingram was another key contributor, scoring five points along with six rebounds and four steals.
Meanwhile, Riverside Christian's 15-game losing streak dating back to last season came to an end on Tuesday. They came out on top in a nail-biter against Bronson and snuck past 41-39. Riverside Christian's offense stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most points they've scored all season.
Chiefland's defeat dropped their record down to 6-9. As for Riverside Christian, their victory ended a seven-game drought on the road and puts them at 1-14.
Everything came up roses for Chiefland against Riverside Christian in their previous matchup back in January of 2023 as the squad secured a 47-12 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for Chiefland since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
