Great Crossing is headed into the match having just suffered their biggest loss since March 23, 2024 on Friday. They lost 14-7 to Franklin County. Great Crossing has now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Ashtyn Holbrook made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 3-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and one stolen base. Dakota Mullins also deserves some recognition as she got her first hit of the season.
Meanwhile, Madison Southern hadn't done well against Wolfe County recently (they were 0-4 in their previous four matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Friday. The Eagles walked away with an 8-5 win over the Wolves.
Kayley Goss made a big impact no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run while striking out eight over seven innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in seven consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run, two RBI, and one double.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Ashlyn Estep, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with four stolen bases and three runs. Those four stolen bases gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Lexie Keener, who went 2-for-4 with one home run and three RBI.
Madison Southern lost a few balls and finished the game with three home runs. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Wolfe County didn't launched any home runs.
Great Crossing now has a losing record of 4-5. As for Madison Southern, they now have a winning record of 9-8.
Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Monday. Great Crossing hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 1 home runs per game. However, it's not like Madison Southern struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 0.9 home runs. With so much power on both teams, it'll be down to the pitchers to keep the mound locked down.
Everything went Great Crossing's way against Madison Southern in their previous meeting back in May of 2024, as Great Crossing made off with a 14-4 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for Great Crossing since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
