The Shadow Creek Sharks came tearing into Wednesday's contest with 15 straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 24.6 points) and they left with even more momentum. They walked away with a 62-51 win over Pearland. Given Shadow Creek's advantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 14th, while the Oilers are ranked 212th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Shadow Creek's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Michael Collins, who scored 21 points. Collins has been hot recently, having posted 19 or more points the last ten times he's played. Julian Cuillier was another key contributor, scoring 15 points along with three steals.
Despite the loss, Pearland saw an underclassman step up: Avin Glover scored 16 points along with five rebounds and two steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Glover has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Brayden Austin, who scored eight points along with two steals.
Even though they lost, Pearland were working as a unit and finished the game with 13 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Shadow Creek only racked up three assists.
Shadow Creek's win was their seventh straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 24-2. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 74.4 points per game. As for Pearland, their loss dropped their record down to 16-12.
Shadow Creek will look to defend their home court on Saturday against the Bears at 1:00 p.m. Alief Hastings has now lost ten straight, and the team is hunting for their first win since December 9. As for Pearland, they will head out on the road to face off against the Rams at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. Alief Elsik is coming into the matchup on a three-game losing streak.
