New Hope Academy has been on the road for three straight, but on Tuesday they'll finally head home. They will take on Grace Brethren Christian at 7:15 p.m. on Tuesday. One thing working in New Hope Academy's favor is that they have posted big point totals in their last 23 contests.
New Hope Academy pushed their score all the way to 63 on Friday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They fell 75-63 to St. Andrew's Episcopal. While losing is never fun, New Hope Academy can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Maryland basketball rankings (they are ranked 90th, while the Lions are ranked third).
Despite their defeat, New Hope Academy saw several players rise to the challenge and make noteworthy plays. Haki Muhammad, who scored 22 points along with six rebounds, was perhaps the best of all. Muhammad has been hot recently, having posted 19 or more points the last three times he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Jalen Martinez, who almost dropped a double-double on 13 points and nine rebounds.
Meanwhile, Grace Brethren Christian suffered their closest defeat since December 1, 2023 on Saturday. They fell just short of Jackson-Reed by a score of 59-56. Having run the score up that high, both teams probably have some extra defensive drills coming up.
New Hope Academy dropped their record down to 15-18 with that loss, which was their fourth straight on the road. As for Grace Brethren Christian, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 23-4.
