Even though the Jackson Academy Eagles have not done well against the Sparta Academy Warriors recently (they were 0-9 in their previous nine matchups), they didn't let the past get in their way on Friday. Jackson Academy walked away with a 39-32 victory over Sparta Academy. The score was all tied up 19-19 at the break, but Jackson Academy was the better team in the second half.
Several Warriors players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Jamie Ellissa Deason, who scored 12 points along with seven rebounds and three steals. That was a full 37.5% of Sparta Academy's points, marking the fifth time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Mary Trainham Brock, who scored 11 points along with two steals.
Jackson Academy's victory bumped their record up to 1-0. As for Sparta Academy, their loss ended a five-game streak of away wins and brought them to 18-3.
Jackson Academy will head out on the road to face off against Sparta Academy at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Sparta Academy, they will look to defend their home court on Monday against Patrician Academy at 6:00 p.m.
