Golden West recap November 5, 2013
Westminster extended the longest winning streak in Golden West this week by beating Ocean View, 49-14. The victory was the fourth in a row for the Lions.
Segerstrom made the biggest leap in the national rankings this week, rising to 8,030 from 8,191. The advance stemmed from a 35-14 victory over Orange last week.
Omar Navarro was a key player and the best on defense this week as the Jaguars beat the Panthers. The 5-foot-10 defensive back pulled down 2 interceptions and racked up 1 sack.
Fidel Cendejas threw for 309 yards and 1 touchdown. He was 14-27 with 2 interceptions.
Daniel Valencia was the most successful running back in the league this week. In 25 carries, he ran for 196 yards as the Seahawks lost to Loara. David Alani also contributed to the rushing game with 33 yards on the ground.
Leading the league in both passing and receiving yards, the Saints' Cendejas and Sergio Cadena have proven to be a lethal combination. 6-0 quarterback Cendejas has thrown for 1,577 yards this season, while Cadena has 35 catches for 726 yards. Navarro from Segerstrom leads the league in rushing with 1,124 yards.
Ocean View's Valencia is a mere 6 yards away from breaking the 1,000-rushing-yards mark for the season. In 166 carries Valencia has accumulated 994 yard this year.
Fans will be treated to a premier battle in the secondary when Santa Ana's Cadena goes up against Mike Maceranka's team's Navarro.
Next week's game between Carl Swanstrom's team and the Jaguars will feature an aerial matchup as Cendejas tests his arm against Navarro's defensive ability.
One of Golden West's premier quarterbacks will face off with its top pass rusher when the Saints and Segerstrom face off next week.
As it stands, the Saxons are in fourth, while Westminster is in first.
