Marana hasn't had much luck against Sunnyside recently, but that could start to change on Monday. The Tigers are taking a road trip to challenge the Blue Devils at 6:00 p.m. Marana is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 10 runs per game this season.
Marana's pitching crew heads into the matchup hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Thursday. They blew past Rincon/University 18-0. The result was nothing new for the Tigers, who have now won nine contests by six runs or more so far this season.
Marana got a great performance from Emma Winter as she didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit over five innings pitched. Winter has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than one walk in 12 consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Bella Corona and Maya Cormell did most of the damage at the plate: Corona went 3-for-4 with five RBI, two runs, and one stolen base, while Cormell scored a run and stole a base while going 4-for-4. The dominant performance also gave Cormell a new career-high in RBI (three). Bella Sayre was another key player, scoring three runs while going 2-for-2.
Marana always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .556. They are a perfect 10-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.
Meanwhile, Sunnyside hadn't done well against Tucson High Magnet School recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Thursday. The Blue Devils walked away with an 11-6 victory over the Badgers. The win was familiar territory for the Blue Devils, who have now won three games in a row.
Tatyana Vega was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out eight batters over seven innings while giving up five earned (and one unearned) runs off nine hits. Vega was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in three of her five plate appearances with one RBI.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Kasandra Alcaraz, who went 2-for-5 with four RBI and two doubles. Another player making a difference was Soleil Ponce, who scored three runs while going 3-for-5.
Sunnyside pushed their record up to 17-6-1 with the victory, which was their fourth straight on the road. Those road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.3 runs over those games. As for Marana, their record now sits at 14-10.
Monday's match will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Marana hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .412. However, it's not like Sunnyside struggles in that department as they've averaged .358. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Marana came up short against Sunnyside in their previous matchup last Thursday, falling 13-9. Can the Tigers avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
