Fort Calhoun hasn't had much luck against Syracuse recently, but that could start to change on Thursday. The Pioneers will be taking part in a tournament against the Rockets at 6:00 p.m. Given that the two teams suffered a loss in their last games, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this contest.
Fort Calhoun's tournament run continued when they took on Douglas County West on Tuesday. The Pioneers took a 3-1 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Falcon. While the Pioneers didn't get the win, they did start the game off strong, beating the Falcon 25-15 in the first set.
Fort Calhoun started the match hot and won the first set, but they struggled down the stretch and lost the last three. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 15-25, 25-14, 25-20, 25-17.
Despite the defeat, Fort Calhoun had strong showings from Ella Bouwman, who had 11 digs and two aces, and Claire Pearson, who had 15 digs.
Meanwhile, Syracuse also suffered a loss in their last game, falling to Louisville by a score of 3-1.
Syracuse couldn't get the W, but boy did they fight for it: two sets took extra rallies. The match finished with set scores of 26-24, 25-21, 19-25, 27-25.
Fort Calhoun's loss dropped their record down to 16-10. As for Syracuse, their defeat dropped their record down to 12-14.
Fort Calhoun beat Syracuse 3-1 in their previous meeting back in September. Do the Pioneers have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Rockets turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
