It may have taken overtime to finish the job, but the Spanish Springs Cougars ultimately got the result they hoped for on Friday. They came out on top in a nail-biter against Basha and snuck past 63-60. The win was just what Spanish Springs needed coming off of a 58-32 defeat in their prior match.
Spanish Springs found their leader in underclassman Aaliyah Vance, who scored 17 points along with five assists and four steals. Vance has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last six times she's played. Layni Noonkester was another key contributor, scoring 16 points.
Basha's loss came despite strong showings from Audrey O'Connor and Grace Beckler. O'Connor scored 17 points along with seven rebounds and four steals, while Beckler dropped a double-double on 16 points and 16 rebounds. Beckler scored a full 26.7% of Basha's points, the third time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Rose Bosch, who scored 12 points along with three steals.
Spanish Springs' win bumped their record up to 8-5. As for Basha, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 8-6.
