The Doherty Spartans won the last time they faced the Coronado Cougars, and things went their way on Tuesday too. Doherty simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat Coronado 66-34 on the road. That looming 66-34 mark stands out as the most commanding margin for Doherty yet this season.
Elijah Mack continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, scoring ten points along with four steals. Another player making a difference was Solomon Latimer, who scored 11 points.
When it comes to explaining why Coronado lost, one person who can't be blamed is Realiti Smith. Despite the final result, he scored 14 points. Lyrik Smith was another key contributor, scoring five points along with three steals.
The victory makes it two in a row for Doherty and bumps their season record up to 4-4. As for Coronado, they have not been sharp recently, as they've lost five of their last six matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-7 record this season.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Doherty won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against Legacy at 7:00 p.m. on December 20th. Legacy is strutting with some offensive muscle, as they've averaged 54 points per game. Coronado will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Mesa Ridge at 7:00 p.m. on January 8, 2024.
