Conwell-Egan Catholic hasn't had much luck against Father Judge recently, but that could start to change on Wednesday. The Eagles will be playing at home against the Crusaders at 4:00 p.m. The two teams each escaped (but just barely!) with wins against their previous opponents.
Conwell-Egan Catholic took a loss when they played away from home last Monday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Wednesday. They never let Monsignor Bonner/Archbishop Prendergast Catholic get on the board and left with a 1-0 win. The Eagles haven't had any issues with the Friars recently, as the game was their third consecutive victory against them.
The result came thanks to Brady Guzzie's shutout, as he gave up just four hits and racked up 13 Ks. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in eight consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Conwell-Egan Catholic saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Connor Landau, who went 1-for-3 with one RBI.
Meanwhile, with a playoff win on the line, Father Judge rose to the challenge on Monday. They narrowly escaped with a win as the squad sidled past the Raiders 4-2. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Crusaders have posted since March 25th.
Anthony Thompson spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered two runs (both of which were unearned) on four hits and racked up six Ks. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Father Judge is 3-1 when he allows at most one earned run, but 7-10 otherwise.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Will Henderson, who went 2-for-3 with two doubles, one stolen base, and two RBI. That's the most doubles he has posted since back in April of 2025. Another player making a difference was Caleb Soto, who went 2-for-3 with two RBI.
Conwell-Egan Catholic's win bumped their record up to 14-4. As for Father Judge, their victory bumped their record up to 10-11.
Conwell-Egan Catholic got the 'W' in their previous meeting back in April against Father Judge by a conclusive 23-2 score. Will the Eagles repeat their success, or do the Crusaders have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
