Basketball Recap: Andrews Takes Loss Despite Strong Efforts from Makayla Singleton and Camaria Gibson

Andrews was not able to break out of their rough patch on Wednesday as the team picked up their 17th straight defeat dating back to last season. They were three points away from ending the streak, but they lost a 42-39 heartbreaker at the hands of the Cane Bay Cobras. The Yellowjackets lost against the Cobras in their previous head to head back in December of 2023, too, but the margin this time around was much closer than the 66-33 score last time.

Andrews' loss shouldn't obscure the performances of Camaria Gibson, who went 8 for 19 on her way to 21 points in addition to seven rebounds and six steals, and Makayla Singleton, who almost dropped a double-double on nine points and nine boards. Gibson's evening made it three games in a row in which she has scored at least ten points.

Even though they lost, Andrews smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 15 offensive rebounds. That's the most offensive boards they've managed all season.

Among those leading the charge was Kimora Carmichael, who went 6 of 14 on her way to 15 points and four steals. She has been hot, having posted two or more steals the last eight times she's played.

Andrews' defeat dropped their record down to 0-4. As for Cane Bay, with the win, they broke their four-game losing streak and moved their record to 1-1.

Andrews wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next game, a 48-15 loss against Carvers Bay on the 6th. As for Cane Bay, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, a 73-18 defeat against James Island on the 6th.
