The Russell County Lakers will face off against the Whitley County Colonels at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty run totals in their previous games.
On Monday, Russell County earned a 10-7 win over Halifax County. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Lakers.
Tanner Stringer was excellent, going 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI. Those two stolen bases gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Ben Kemp, who got on base in four of his five plate appearances with three runs and one double.
Meanwhile, Whitley County never let their opponents score on Monday. They put the hurt on Harlan with a sharp 10-0 victory. The Colonels might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won ten contests by six runs or more this season.
Cooper Parman was a major factor no matter where he played. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit over four innings pitched. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than one hit in six consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with one home run and three RBI.
In other pitching news, Christian Wilson looked comfortable as he pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two hits in four consecutive appearances.
Back at the plate, the team relied heavily on Dee Parker, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs, one triple, and one stolen base. Another player making a difference was Spencer Bargo, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with three RBI.
Whitley County was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .429. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .424 or higher in three consecutive games.
Russell County's win bumped their record up to 5-7. As for Whitley County, their victory bumped their record up to 11-1.
Russell County came up short against Whitley County when the teams last played back in May of 2024, falling 8-4. Can the Lakers avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
