The Wagener-Salley War Eagles's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Tuesday after their seventh straight loss. They fell 34-23 to Calhoun County. Wagener-Salley lost against Calhoun County in their previous head to head back in December of 2023, too, but the margin this time around was much wider than the 49-13 score last time.
It was another big night for Takara Brown, who dropped a double-double on 17 points and 11 rebounds for Calhoun County. Brown hasn't dropped below eight rebounds for seven straight games. Another player making a difference was Cassidy Pough, who scored eight points along with ten rebounds and four steals.
Wagener-Salley dropped their record down to 2-13 with that defeat, which was their eighth straight on the road. Those losses could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 15.3 points per game. As for Calhoun County, they are on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 8-4 record this season.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Wagener-Salley will face off against North at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. North is coming into the matchup on a three-game losing streak. As for Calhoun County, they will head out on the road to challenge Denmark-Olar at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Denmark-Olar comes in on three and Calhoun County on four.
