The Kokomo Wildkats will head out on the road to take on the McCutcheon Mavericks at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Kokomo is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.9 runs per game this season.
Cathedral hit Kokomo with a four-run seventh inning on Monday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Wildkats lost 10-3 to the Fighting Irish. The Wildkats haven't had much luck with the Fighting Irish recently, as the team has come up short the last four times they've met.
Spencer Martin made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-4 with two doubles, one stolen base, and one RBI. Ava Federspill also deserves some recognition as she snagged her first stolen base of the season.
McCutcheon came out on top against Benton Central on Tuesday thanks in part to the team's impressive five-run second inning. The Mavericks never let the Bison get on the board and left with a 10-0 win. Considering the Mavericks have won four contests by more than nine runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.
Sydney Osborn was incredible, going 2-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. That's the most runs she has posted since back in April of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Mallorie Beutel, who went 2-for-3 with three RBI, one stolen base, and one run.
The victory made it two in a row for McCutcheon and bumps their season record up to 5-2. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 14.0 runs over those games. As for Kokomo, their loss dropped their record down to 5-3.
Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Wednesday. Kokomo hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 0.6 home runs per game. However, it's not like McCutcheon struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 1.1 home runs. With so much power on both teams, it'll be down to the pitchers to keep the mound locked down.
Kokomo came out on top in a nail-biter against McCutcheon in their previous meeting back in April of 2024, sneaking past 6-4. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Wildkats since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
