Alameda has gone 9-1 against Arroyo recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Wednesday. The Hornets will challenge the Dons at 4:00 p.m. Alameda's pitching crew has only allowed 3.3 runs per game this season, so Arroyo's hitters will have their work cut out for them.
On Monday, Alameda beat Mt. Eden 7-3. The Hornets haven't had any issues with the Monarchs recently, as the game was their eighth consecutive win against them.
Mia Wong was incredible, getting on base in four of her five plate appearances with one home run, three RBI, and one double. Miley Gradney was another key player, going 4-for-5 with three RBI, one run, and one double.
Alameda kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Mt. Eden only managed two hits.
Meanwhile, Arroyo was not the first on the board on Monday, but they got there more often. They blew past El Cerrito 8-2. Considering the Dons have won five contests by more than five runs this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.
Sadie Fernandez was a major factor no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out 12 batters over seven innings while giving up just two earned runs off five hits (and not a single walk). She has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than one walk in seven consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with two doubles, one stolen base, and one run. That's the most doubles she has posted since back in April of 2024.
In other batting news, Aneesa Aguon was a standout: she went 3-for-4 with two runs, one double, and one RBI. Alyssa Bueno also deserves some recognition as she snagged her first stolen base of the season.
The victory got Arroyo back to even at 6-6. As for Alameda, their record is now 10-7-1.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Wednesday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Alameda has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.6 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Arroyo struggles in that department as they've been averaging 8.3 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Alameda came out on top in a nail-biter against Arroyo in their previous meeting back in May of 2024, sneaking past 1-0. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Hornets since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
