Sadly, the Woonsocket Villa Novans are still looking for their first win of the season after 15 games. They were dealt a 55-21 defeat at the hands of Mt. Hope on Monday. Woonsocket was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 30-8.
Woonsocket's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Alanna Colon, who scored seven points.
Elsa White was her usual excellent self, almost dropping a double-double on 18 points and nine assists for Mt. Hope. It was the first time this season that White posted eight or more assists. Another player making a difference was Maddy Butterworth, who scored ten points along with three steals.
Woonsocket dropped their record down to 0-15 with that loss, which was their 17th straight at home dating back to last season. Those losses could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 19.1 points per game. As for Mt. Hope, their win ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 6-10.
Woonsocket will face off against Tiverton at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are closely ranked in Rhode Island (Tiverton is ranked 32nd, while Woonsocket is ranked 50th). As for Mt. Hope, they will head out on the road to take on Chariho at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Mt. Hope has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games.
