Tucson High Magnet School is a perfect 8-0 against Buena since April of 2015 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Friday. The Badgers will face off against the Colts at 4:00 p.m.
Tucson High Magnet School is probably headed into the matchup with a chip on their shoulder considering Sunnyside just ended the team's four-game winning streak on Thursday. They wound up with the same score they had in their last game (11-6), but sadly the team found themselves on the wrong side of the score this time.
Claudeona Lesley and Adreana Hernandez stepped up to the plate in a big way. Lesley went 2-for-4 with one home run, while Hernandez went 1-for-4 with one home run and two RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Nevaeh Lesley, who scored a run while getting on base in two of her four plate appearances.
Meanwhile, Buena had already won three in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 14.7 runs) and they went ahead and made it four on Wednesday. They came out on top against the Warriors by a score of 20-16. With that victory, the Colts brought their scoring average up to 6.4 runs per game.
Buena got a massive performance out of Morgan Smith, who went 4-for-6 with four RBI, two runs, and two doubles. Those four hits gave Smith a new career-high. Hailey Larson also deserves some recognition as she hit her first triple of the season.
Buena was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .465. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .424 or higher in four consecutive contests.
Buena's win bumped their record up to 5-16. As for Tucson High Magnet School, their loss was their first in the region, dropping their region record down to 3-1 and their overall record down to 14-8.
Friday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Tucson High Magnet School hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .343. However, it's not like Buena struggles in that department as they've averaged .318. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Tucson High Magnet School skirted past Buena 8-6 when the teams last played back in February. Do the Badgers have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Colts turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
