Maddie Gilbert made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out 15 batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off three hits (and not a single walk). She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than nine strikeouts any time she's pitched this season. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Emma Sibert, who went 1-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. She is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now snagged at least one in each of the last four games she's played. Another player making a difference was Kenna Outlaw, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base and two RBI.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Seton). Everything went their way against Quantico on Monday as they made off with a 22-7 victory. With that win, the Conquistadors brought their scoring average up to 8.7 runs per game.
Seton let Christina Witter and Katie Bauer run wild. Witter fired off two home runs, eight RBI, and four runs while going 3-for-5, while Bauer went 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, three runs, and four RBI. Those two home runs gave Witter a new career-high. Maddie Heiny also deserves some recognition as she brought in her first RBI of the season.
Seton always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .565. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
The victory got Trinity Christian back to even at 3-3. As for Seton, their record now sits at 2-3-1.
Seton's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Trinity Christian hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .335. It's a different story for Seton, though, as they've only averaged .250. Will they be able to contain Trinity Christian's hitters?
Trinity Christian couldn't quite finish off Seton in their previous matchup back in March and fell 5-3. Can the Gryphons avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
