Summertown is 9-1 against Wayne County since April of 2016 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Friday. The Summertown Eagles will challenge the Wayne County Wildcats at 6:00 p.m. Summertown is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.2 runs per game this season.
Summertown not only won on Tuesday, but they posted their biggest win since April 30, 2024. Everything went their way against East Limestone as Summertown made off with a 17-7 victory. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for the Eagles considering their two-run performance the game before.
Quint Smith was a standout: he went 3-for-4 with three RBI, one triple, and one run. Those RBI marked the first that he brought in this season. Graham Howell was another key player, going 2-for-3 with three runs, one triple, and one RBI.
Summertown always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .568. The last time their OBP was this high was back in April of 2024.
Meanwhile, the third road contest was the charm for Wayne County, as they earned their first road win of the season. They walked away with an 8-3 win over Loretto on Thursday.
Brady Stooksberry was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He didn't allow a single earned run over 4.1 innings pitched. Stooksberry was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with one RBI.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Graeme Polk, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with three doubles, two RBI, and one run. Another player making a difference was Jacan Floyd, who scored a run while going 3-for-5.
Wayne County's first victory this season bumped their record up to 1-2. As for Summertown, their win ended a six-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 2-3.
Summertown skirted past Wayne County 8-6 in their previous meeting back in April of 2024. The rematch might be a little tougher for Summertown since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
