The Greenville Trojans will head out to face off against the Girard Yellowjackets at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
On Monday, Greenville made easy work of Reynolds and carried off a 17-1 win. While fans of the Trojans might be used to big wins, the 16-run margin marked the team's biggest one yet.
Jacob Csonka made a big impact no matter where he played. On the mound, he struck out eight batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and only one walk). He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two hits in five consecutive appearances. He was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in all five of his plate appearances with three stolen bases, one run, and one RBI. With that strong performance, he is now averaging an impressive 1.1 stolen bases per game.

In other batting news, Nick Solderich was a standout: he went 1-for-4 with three stolen bases, three runs, and two RBI. Those three stolen bases gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Brandon Stubert, who went 1-for-3 with three runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.
Girard never got on the board in their matchup on Monday, but that sure wasn't the case in their game against Corry on Wednesday. They put the hurt on the Beavers with a sharp 14-6 victory. The win continues a trend for the Yellowjackets in their matchups with the Beavers: they've now won four in a row.
Like Greenville, Girard also got a great game from a two-way player: Carson Stevens. Throwing, Stevens tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, Joe Ferretti struck out six batters over 5.2 innings while giving up three earned (and one unearned) runs off five hits. At bat, Stevens got on base in three of his five plate appearances with one run and one double, while Ferretti went 3-for-5 with two runs.
In other batting news, Girard got a massive performance out of Mason Kalicky, who went 2-for-4 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. That home run marked the first that Kalicky has launched this season. Ryan St. Julien was another key player, going 2-for-5 with three RBI, two runs, and one double.
Girard kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Corry only managed seven hits.
Greenville's record is now 10-1. As for Girard, their record now sits at 9-3.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Friday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Greenville has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 9.9 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Girard struggles in that department as they've been averaging 9.8 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Greenville was able to grind out a solid victory over Girard when the teams last played back in May of 2018, winning 8-5. Will the Trojans repeat their success, or do the Yellowjackets have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
