After a string of five wins, the Roy Royals's good fortune finally ran out on Friday. They opened the new year with a less-than-successful 52-42 loss to Northridge. The result shouldn't come as a shock considering that's the fewest points Roy has scored all season.
Roy's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Bronson Belnap, who scored 13 points along with four steals. Belnap scored a full 31% of Roy's points, the fifth time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Dahlen Pontius, who scored nine points along with nine rebounds.
Roy's defeat ended a four-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 6-5. As for Northridge, their win bumped their record up to 2-9.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Roy will square off against Bonneville at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Bonneville will be looking to keep their three-game home win streak alive. As for Northridge, they will head out on the road to face off against Bountiful at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
