Last Friday, Bishop Ireton faced Bishop O'Connell in a battle between two of the state's top teams. Bishop Ireton claimed a resounding 77-35 victory over Bishop O'Connell on the road. Bishop Ireton has made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won ten matches by 23 points or more this season.
It was another big night for Nyla Brooks, who scored 34 points along with eight rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points she has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Amirah Anderson, who almost dropped a double-double on 16 points and nine rebounds.
Paul VI was handed a three-point loss in their last game, but they sure didn't let that happen against St. Mary's Ryken on Tuesday. Paul VI blew past St. Mary's Ryken 79-34 at home.
Bishop Ireton pushed their record up to 18-7 with that win, which was their fourth straight on the road. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 74.8 points per game. As for Paul VI, their win bumped their record up to 13-11.
Bishop Ireton couldn't quite finish off Paul VI when the teams last played back in February of 2023 and fell 47-44. Can Bishop Ireton avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
