Basketball Recap: Basic Comes Up Short

Basic's tournament run continued when they took on Service on Monday. The Wolves had to suffer through a 79-50 loss at the hands of the Cougars.

Despite the loss, Basic saw an underclassman step up: sophomore TJ Edmond dropped a double-double with 15 points and 12 rebounds. Edmond is also on a roll when it comes to shooting accuracy, as he's posted one of at least 45% in the last six games he's played. Kenny Williams also deserves some recognition as he posted his first block of the season.

Basic has been struggling recently as they've lost six of their last seven games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 2-11 record this season. That patch can't be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 55.7 points over those games. As for Service, their record now sits at 3-1.

Coming up, Basic and Sunny Hills will face off at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday without much rest, having both just played. The Wolves will be up against the Lancers' rather soft defense (which has allowed 51.61 points per contest), so fans could be in store for a big offensive performance. As for Service, they will host Bettye Davis East Anchorage at 7:30 p.m. on January 6, 2026. The matchup will give the Cougars their first taste of in-conference action this season.
