The Rising Sun Shiners's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Thursday after their third straight loss. They took a 58-39 bruising from Jac-Cen-Del. While losing is never fun, Rising Sun can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Indiana basketball rankings (they are ranked 301st, while Jac-Cen-Del is ranked 99th).
Despite the loss, Rising Sun still got an impressive performance from Alyssa Simpson, who dropped a double-double on ten points and 11 rebounds. Jaylen Peelman was another key contributor, scoring eight points.
Jac-Cen-Del's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Julia Meyer led the charge by scoring 15 points along with two steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Sophia Sullivan, who scored 15 points along with five rebounds.
Rising Sun's loss dropped their record down to 7-11. As for Jac-Cen-Del, the win was the fifth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 17-4.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Rising Sun on the road again on Saturday and play against Southwestern at 1:30 p.m. on January 20th. Southwestern will be looking to keep their three-game home win streak alive. As for Jac-Cen-Del, they will head out on the road to take on South Ripley at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Hopefully South Ripley focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 23 on Thursday.
