Bishop O'Dowd is 9-1 against the Yellowjackets since February of 2018, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Friday. The Bishop O'Dowd Dragons will head out on the road to take on the Berkeley Yellowjackets at 7:00 p.m. Both teams are coming into the game red-hot, with Bishop O'Dowd sitting on six straight wins and the Yellowjackets on four.
Even though Castro Valley scored an imposing 66 points on Tuesday, Bishop O'Dowd still came out on top. Bishop O'Dowd enjoyed a cozy 82-66 win over the Trojans. Given Bishop O'Dowd's advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 45th, while the Trojans are ranked 421st), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Bishop O'Dowd can attribute much of their success to Leo Chapman, who scored 24 points along with six rebounds, and Samuel Chavarin, who dropped a double-double on 21 points and 12 rebounds. Chavarin continues to roll, besting his previous point total in each of the last three games he's played. Another player making a difference was Tobias Aisien, who scored nine points along with seven rebounds and four steals.
In what's become a running theme this season, Berkeley gave their fans yet another huge victory on Wednesday. They breezed by San Leandro on the road to the tune of 73-44.
Bishop O'Dowd pushed their record up to 16-6 with that win, which was their ninth straight at home dating back to last season. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 71.3 points per game. As for Berkeley, they have been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six matches, which provided a nice bump to their 17-6 record this season.
Bishop O'Dowd came out on top in a nail-biter against the Yellowjackets in their previous matchup back in January, sneaking past 60-58. The rematch might be a little tougher for Bishop O'Dowd since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
