The Mescalero Apache Chiefs will head out to face off against the Capitan Tigers at 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Having both just faced considerable losses, both teams are looking to turn things around.
Mescalero Apache came up short against Mesilla Valley Christian School on Saturday, falling 15-3. The Chiefs have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Mescalero Apache saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Matthew Damon, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one double. Another was Anthony Yuzos, who went 1-for-3 with one triple and one run.
Meanwhile, Capitan was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their 13th straight defeat dating back to last season. They lost 32-18 to Lordsburg. On the bright side, the 18- run effort marked the Tigers' highest-scoring contest to date.
Colton Wales led a balanced group of hitters, getting on base in all five of his plate appearances with four runs, two doubles, and one stolen base. The team also got some help courtesy of Greg Castro, who went 4-for-5 with two stolen bases, four RBI, and two runs.
Capitan's loss dropped their record down to 0-10. As for Mescalero Apache, their defeat dropped their record down to 4-11.
Capitan's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Mescalero Apache hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .322. It's a different story for Capitan, though, as they've only averaged .241. Will they be able to contain Mescalero Apache's hitters?
Mescalero Apache came out on top in a nail-biter against Capitan in their previous matchup back in April of 2024, sneaking past 7-5. Will the Chiefs repeat their success, or do the Tigers have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
