The Schaumburg Saxons will square off against the Glenbard West Hilltoppers at 4:45 p.m. on Wednesday. Schaumburg is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 10.2 runs per game this season.
On Tuesday, Schaumburg got the win against Larkin by a conclusive 12-2. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Saxons.
Madison Linnemann was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one walk in three consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 3-for-3. She also brought in an RBI, marking her first of the season.
In other batting news, Schaumburg got a massive performance out of Alexa Evans, who scored two runs and stole a base while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances. Jordan Murtaugh was another key player, going 1-for-4 with one home run and three RBI.
Schaumburg always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .606. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Larkin only posted an OBP of .300.
Meanwhile, Glenbard West came up short against Wheaton North on Tuesday and fell 5-2. The Hilltoppers have struggled against the Falcons recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive lost meeting.
Megan Stieglitz made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-4 with one home run and two RBI.
Glenbard West's defeat dropped their record down to 2-2. As for Schaumburg, the victory also got them back to even at 2-2.
Glenbard West's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Schaumburg has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .523. It's a different story for Glenbard West, though, as they've only averaged .354. Will they be able to contain Schaumburg's hitters?
Schaumburg might still be hurting after the 15-5 loss they got from Glenbard West in their previous matchup back in April of 2024. Can the Saxons avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
