After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Triad, the Jersey Panthers were happy to have found some success on Tuesday. They secured a 48-44 W over Southwestern. This was payback for Jersey, who suffered a 53-52 loss the last time these two teams met.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Jersey to victory, but perhaps none more so than Jaxon Brunaugh, who dropped a double-double on 23 points and ten rebounds. Francis Vogel was another key contributor, scoring 11 points.
Despite the loss, Southwestern still got an impressive performance from Ian Brantley, who scored 20 points along with eight rebounds and two blocks. That was a full 45.5% of Southwestern's points, marking the sixth time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Rocky Darr, who scored 11 points.
Jersey's victory ended a five-game drought on the road and puts them at 8-11. As for Southwestern, their defeat ended a seven-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 12-7.
Jersey will head out on the road to challenge Civic Memorial at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully Civic Memorial focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up eight on Wednesday. As for Southwestern, they will play host again and welcome Metro-East Lutheran, where tip off is scheduled for 6:00 p.m. on Saturday.
