Centennial is a perfect 3-0 against Desert Edge since February of 2023 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Thursday. The Centennial Coyotes will head out to take on the Desert Edge Scorpions at 6:00 p.m. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty run totals in their previous games.
If Centennial beats Desert Edge with 21 runs on Thursday, it's going to be the squad's new lucky number: they've won their past two games with that exact score. Centennial let Brooke Denton and Leilani Diaz run wild. Denton scored three runs and stole Four bases. while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances, while Diaz got on base in three of her four plate appearances with three runs, four RBI, and one stolen base. With that strong performance, Denton is now averaging an impressive 1.7 stolen bases per game. The team also got some help courtesy of Serenity Anchondo, who went 2-for-3 with three RBI, one triple, and one run.
Centennial always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .771. The last time their OBP was this high was back in April of 2024.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Desert Edge). They never let Copper Canyon get on the board and left with a 20-0 victory on Tuesday. The Scorpions haven't had any issues with the Aztecs recently, as the game was their third consecutive win against them.
Aliyah Fatigoni (2027) made a splash no matter where she played. She didn't allow a single earned run over four innings pitched. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, scoring three runs and stealing a base while going 3-for-5. That stolen base marked the first that she snagged this season.
In other batting news, Desert Edge got a massive performance out of Azerae Cantrell (2027), who scored three runs and stole Four bases. while going 4-for-4. Those four hits gave Cantrell (2027) a new career-high. Teagan Gutierrez (2025) also deserves some recognition as she got her first hits of the season.
The victory got Centennial back to even at 3-3-1. As for Desert Edge, they now have a winning record of 3-2.
Everything went Centennial's way against Desert Edge when the teams last played back in April of 2024, as Centennial made off with a 13-1 win. Does Centennial have another victory up their sleeve, or will Desert Edge turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
